Our behaviour expectations at MAC

We have established clear expectations for the behaviour we expect in all areas of our school. We purposefully teach those expectations to the students. Students are acknowledged; and if appropriate, rewarded frequently for showing positive behaviour.

For example, in Year 7 and 8 SOAR certificates are awarded at Year level meetings. Fortnightly grades are another example where every student is awarded a score out of 5 for their attitude in class. In Year 9 to 13, the Whanau teacher or Deans will acknowledge or reward positive behaviour in different ways as they see appropriate.

Our behaviour expectations at MAC are clear for all staff and students to see. We have a matrix of behaviours we want to see across the school in different learning areas.

Restorative Practice

We will role model our SOAR values as staff at all times. In some cases, depending on the needs of some classes, the expected behaviours may need to be explicitly taught and discussed to create a positive learning culture. We also believe in Restorative Practice which is a fundamental approach that focuses on restoration between students and staff, or students and their peers.
